A urologist is a surgeon who deals with the male and female urinary system and male sexual organs.  Beyond being experts in managing cancer of the kidneys, ureter, bladder, prostate and male sexual organs they deal with the medical and surgical management of kidney stones, voiding disorders, mens’ health, womens’ (urinary) health and almost any other condition related to these areas. 

 A urologist in Australia is a fellow of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons and has completed a further 6-8 years of specialty training after medical school, internship and residency. 

Yes, you will require a current referral from your General Practitioner (GP) or another specialist. The referral from your GP will ensure that you are seeing the correct specialist for your condition. 

You will be required to bring this current referral with you to your first consultation. GP referrals are valid for a period of 12 months and specialist referrals are valid for a period of 3 months.

You will need to bring the following to your appointment:

  • Your valid GP or specialist referral 
  • Medicare card and private health fund details 
  • DVA or pension card 
  • Any Xrays, CT scans or MRIs 
  • Blood or urine tests 
  • A list of your current medications 
  • A list of any allergies to any drugs 
  • Previous operation reports, if relevant 

When you make your appointment with our office, you will be quoted an estimation of fees which will be payable on the day of your appointment. The cost of the consultation may vary depending on whether the appointment is the initial consult or a follow up appointment.

Dr Murray will review your referral, including any scans and tests and will take a thorough history from you. You may be asked to undergo an examination. If required, he may order additional scans or blood tests.  If you require an operation, Dr Murray will explain the options available to you including the risks involved. He will answer any questions you may have.

 You are more that welcome to bring other family member with you at your time of consultation. Please note that we cannot discuss any patient medical matters with any other family member without written approval by the patient.
