If a ureter is blocked urine builds up behind the blockage, this stretches the kidney, causing pain and discomfort. If left for long enough this blockage can cause permanent loss of kidney function. The ureter can be blocked by: stones, tumours, blood clots or abnormalities in ureter development such as a PUJ obstruction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A ureteric stent is a long, thin, soft plastic tube. The ends of the tube are coiled so the stent does not \u2018fall out\u2019 of the kidney or \u2018go up\u2019 the ureter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ureteric stent often irritates the internal lining of the kidney, ureter and\/or bladder. <strong>You should expect: discomfort or pain when passing urine, the need to pass urine frequently; an urgent need to pass urine and intermittent bleeding in the urine<\/strong>. Taking Ural sachets and over the counter pain medication often helps.
