It is performed in hospital as a day surgery procedure under a general anaesthetic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The testicle is covered in a smooth layer called the tunica vaginalis. This layer covers the testicle (viscera layer) then curves back on itself and covers the Dartos muscle on the inner aspect of the scrotal wall (parietal layer). A small amount of fluid is continually produced and re-absorbed by the tunica vaginalis; this serves to lubricant allowing the testicle to move freely within the scrotum.
